Last year, Boston Consulting Group (BCG) published a study with Harvard demonstrating consultants with AI access delivered 40% higher quality results. They also completed 12.2% more tasks and worked 25.1% faster.
With generative models having made large leaps since, Ireland’s premier AI training provider wanted to discover if the gains were now even larger. The Ai Institute teamed-up with cutting-edge engineers Ethos to find out. The key findings of the replicated study were:
John Coroner, a Results-driven Leader, commented, "The results are very promising and align with the findings of the BCG study. AI tools like ChatGPT have the potential to revolutionise how we approach engineering tasks, improving both quality and efficiency."
The study was carried out at Ethos’ EPIC Innovation Day at Croke Park. Maryrose Lyons, Founder of the Ai Institute, led the recreation of the Harvard-BCG study.
Two groups of engineers participated in a series of complex, knowledge-intensive tasks. One group had access to AI tools like ChatGPT, while the other did not.
Maryrose said: "Whilst we didn’t quite get to the same levels of gains as the Harvard study, this is undeniably further proof of the principle. And with further training and practice, there are many improvements still on the table.
At the Ai Institute we’re committing to double the efficiency of corporate teams via AI. And these results help guide us to that very outcome. We’re especially excited by the results on job satisfaction. Nothing improves productivity than a motivated workforce."
Ethos Engineering plans to further integrate AI into their workflows, leveraging these tools to drive innovation and excellence. The success of the EPIC Innovation Day marks a significant step towards a future where AI plays a pivotal role in engineering.
Alison Heffernan, Head of People at Ethos Engineering, shared her thoughts:
"The sample exercise based on reverse mentoring was a key highlight. This practice, which Ethos Engineering is re-igniting, not only fostered learning but also showcased the innovative spirit within our team."
John Coroner, a Results-driven Leader, commented
"Well done yesterday Maryrose, it was fantastic from start to finish. Everyone lapped up every minute of the event. I had an idea of where I wanted the day to go but never in my wildest dreams did I envisage it being as exciting and fun and interesting as it was. Thank you so much."
Ethos Engineering recognises that they are early in their journey of adopting AI. With time, they aim to blend the capabilities of AI with human successes to create collaborative, more impactful results. This balanced approach will enable them to harness the strengths of both AI and human ingenuity, driving even greater innovation and effectiveness in their projects.
The AI Institute is dedicated to democratising the impact of AI for everyone, ensuring no one is left behind. We assist corporates in staying on the right side of the EU AI Act while leveraging AI to drive innovation and efficiency. Our mission is to make AI accessible and beneficial for all, fostering a future where technology empowers every individual and organisation.
